Pain perdu au four

A deliciously and surprising light recipe for “pain perdu” (french toast) in the oven. Almost no butter (only the dish lining) and home made jam spread on the bread may be the secret.


For one whole baguette cut on 1 to 2 cm slices:
1- Spread an oven dish with butter.
2- Spread the slices with jam and place them flat in the dish. You can squeeze them. I used homemade strawberry jam. (recipe here)
3- In a bowl, whisk 10 cl of cold milk, three eggs and three tablespoons of brown sugar. Pour the liquid on the slices of baguette.
4- Bake in a 180º C. oven for 25 minutes.


I served it with strawberry jam on the side topped with fresh peaches.
