Molcajete

My new mini Molcajete! I use it exclusively for grinding garlic, fresh ginger and/or spices.

Molcajete is the traditional “mortar & pestle” of Mexico. The name is of Nahuatl origin, the language of the Aztecs.
It is still widely used in Mexico. And most homes have one in the kitchen.
Larger ones are generally used to make salsa. Tomatoes, onions, fresh herbs and spices are all slowly mixed in the Molcajete with a grinding (not pounding) motion.
